Ratna Mani Nepal has been teaching at Central Department of Rural Development Studies (CDRDS) since 2005. He pursued MA in rural development from Tribhuvan University in 2003. Currently, he is writing doctorate dissertation in alternative development thinking with special reference to Nepal.
Ratna’s core areas of teaching are theory and discourses of development and culture and development. In his initial career, he taught renewable energy, rural technology and sustainable development. In addition, Ratna has coordinated in developing curricula for rural development studies (Semester System) for Tribhuvan University and Far-Western University of Nepal.
His research interest is in the areas that include concept and history of development, alternative development thinking (South Asia), democracy and development, political economy, culture and development. He has also published in the areas of his interest. He has presented paper on ‘WWII and Development: A Review on the Beginning of Collective Learning (CL) in Nepal’ at international conference held at National University of Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia (2015). He has participated in various national and international conferences and workshops.
Ratna is also a well-known creative writer and an activist of democratic movements in Nepal.
